Telecommunications Center (Vancouver, WA)
Provided seismic strengthening for both structural and nonstructural building systems in this 14,000 sf Telecommunications Center and Office Building. Currently, this mission critical building serves as the primary telecommunications hub for the entire BPA transmission grid. As the prime consultant, Brian Knight led the partnership with BPA to provide a seismic strengthening scheme that allowed for continuous operations of the Telecommunications Center during construction activities. The project objective was to maintain operational performance of the Telecommunications Center following a major seismic event, while providing Life-Safety protection of the Office areas.Â Construction was completed in 2008.Back to top
BPA Dittmer Control Center Modernization (Vancouver, WA)
Provided structural engineering design, construction documents, and construction support services for the modernization of this Operations Control Center. The project primarily consisted of designing seismic bracing and anchorage of new and existing nonstructural elements (i.e. ceilings, map boards, video boards, control cabinets, access floors, etc.) inside and above the Control Center. All elements were designed to provide operational performance following a major seismic event.Back to top
Tacoma Control House Seismic Evaluation, Tacoma, WA
Seismic evaluation of this historic Control House located in Tacoma, Washington. Built as part of the â€œOriginal Gridâ€, the Tacoma Control House is historically and culturally significant to BPA.Â The building was constructed with unreinforced masonry bearing walls and precast concrete roof panels. The project was completed working directly for BPA and included the development of a conceptual strengthening scheme and construction cost estimate.
